History
The university’s lineage dates back to the early 19th century with the founding of a Tradesmen’s and Mechanics’ Institute in 1827, followed by the School of Art in 1851. Over time these institutions merged and evolved into Wolverhampton Polytechnic in 1969 and ultimately achieved full university status in 1992.
