History
The idea of establishing a university in Lancaster began with a public meeting in 1947, and after a formal proposal in 1961 the institution admitted its first students in October 1964. Initially housed temporarily in the city, the campus moved to the purpose-built Bailrigg site near Lancaster between 1966 and 1970. Since then, the university has expanded its academic offerings across sciences, humanities, social sciences, business and technology, integrating research and teaching within its collegiate model.
