History
The origins of Sheffield Hallam date back to 1843 when the Sheffield School of Design was founded in response to the industrial and manufacturing heritage of Sheffield. Over the decades, it evolved through various mergers and transformations into Sheffield City Polytechnic. In 1992, it was granted full university status and became Sheffield Hallam University. Since then, it has grown substantially in student numbers, campus facilities and academic breadth.
