History
The institution’s heritage goes back to the Leeds Mechanics Institute founded in 1824.It became Leeds Polytechnic in 1970, later gained university status in 1992, and adopted the name Leeds Beckett University in 2014.Over time the university has developed its infrastructure, academic offerings and reputation, while maintaining a focus on practical learning and community engagement.
